San Joaquin River Invasive Plant Removal

Corpsmember Charles Mullin pulls the invasive plant Red Sesbania from the ground and piles it up for removal along the San Joaquin River in Fresno, CA.

Hands-on, back-aching work in often muddy and sweltering conditions. It may not sound like fun, but this group of CCC Fresno Corpsmembers will tell you it’s all worth it to improve their local ecosystem.

They’re pulling out an invasive plant species by the roots—often in mud deep enough to swallow your boot – along the San Joaquin River.

Red Sesbania may have pretty red flowers and seed pods that sound like a baby’s rattle, but it doesn’t belong there.

The Corpsmembers are committed to helping the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust return the river banks to their native conditions.
