Base Camp Support

Corpsmembers from the Delta, Sacramento, and Solano Centers all were assigned to the Chute Fire base camp in Yuba City in July.

The only way to truly understand how a wildland firefighting base camp runs is to experience it firsthand.

At the recent Chute Fire, in Yuba County, Corpsmembers fresh to the CCC got their first taste of what 16-hour days and potential 16-day assignments are like.

For the more experienced Corpsmember, the mission of helping fuel the firefighters working to contain even the smallest of blazes keeps them going — the excess pay doesn’t hurt either.

It’s an insightful experience that may lead these young adults into future careers as first responders, or just more informed citizens.

Mission Fueled

Corpsmembers say the mission of helping be part of an emergency wildland firefighting base camp keeps them motivated through long hours and days.
