Off The Beaten Path

Five crews of Corpsmembers head off to remote parts of State Parks, National Parks, and National Forests each year. The mental and physical challenge of living off grid is what motivates many Corpsmembers to apply.

The season is half-way over, but they had to start somewhere.

Each year, that somewhere is the CCC Placer Center, it’s where our CCC Backcountry Trails Program Corpsmembers assemble and divide up into their crews for the summer.

Of course, it’s not summer vacation, it is five-plus months of hard work in the most remote, and amazing, parts of California.

Whether it’s their first time doing this kind of CCC Trails work or something they have experience with from their CCC center, the young adults taking on this journey are motivated to make a difference, develop new skills, and grow as people and a community.

Prepped & Ready

Packing for five months off-grid is not an easy task. Each year, Corpsmembers assemble at Placer Center to pack their bags and prepare to hike into the wilderness.
