Supporting Residents of Guam After Typhoon Mawar

Months after Typhoon Mawar—a category 4 hurricane—hit the U.S. Territory of Guam, California Conservation Corps crews from across the state assembled to led helping hands and chain saws.

After a more than 16-hour flight, the Corpsmembers from Los Angeles, Pomona, Chico, Sacramento, Redding, and Fortuna worked six days per week in hot and humid conditions.

The weather, flora and fauna—and wild creatures—were all new to the crews, but the work of clearing downed trees was familiar.

It’s an experience they won’t soon forget, especially the hospitality of the Guamanian people.
