CCC Responds to Fires in Butte, Ventura Counties

The Butte Fire Center in Magalia is under evacuation orders due to the Camp Fire.

The California Conservation Corps is responding to multiple fires throughout California. Corpsmembers are fighting fires on the front lines and assisting CALFIRE with base camp operations.

A total of five CCC fire crews are currently assigned to the Camp Fire burning in Butte County. Three CCC Camarillo Center fire crews are working the Hill Fire in Ventura County. An additional nine CCC crews, so far, are assisting in fire base camp operations for the Camp, Hill and Woolsey fires. The Woolsey Fire is also burning in Ventura County.

The CCC Butte Fire Center in Magalia is under evacuation orders due to the Camp Fire. All three fire crews based at the center are currently working the front lines with CALFIRE. The center’s kitchen Corpsmembers evacuated to the CCC Chico Center and may be assigned to assist fire base camp operations.

A small contingency of Corpsmembers remained with staff at the center over night Thursday, but evacuated to Chico on Friday morning. All CCC Corpsmembers and staff are accounted for and are either working the fire or have evacuated to safety.

In addition to the Butte crews, two CCC fire crews from the Placer Center are also assigned to the Camp Fire.
