“You’re in here kind of just standing here and you’re like, ‘okay, how do we get this started?’ You’re looking around, you’re looking at the trees, you’re looking at possibilities, and then you start putting it all together.”
Nicholas Berna
CCC Fortuna Center
It may look like a conundrum or pure chaos to the uninitiated.
Call it puzzle, or a riddle, CCC Fortuna Corpsmembers have the answer for Salmon Restoration Projects.
During the summer months when water levels drop in creeks, Corpsmembers descend to anchor fallen tree trunks in creek beds so when the winter rains rise, endangered salmon can have places to rest, recover, and stay safe through the journey.
It truly is gripping work where Corpsmembers test their muscles and minds, and they use grip hoists.
Plans in Action
With the guidance of project sponsors and the CCC’s own Fish Habitat Specialists, Corpsmembers follow precise site plans to determine which logs to move and where to secure them in the creeks they’re assigned to complete the projects.
