Protecting Levees from Seepage and Sand Boils

Two Delta Corpsmembers work together to place sand bags around a sand boil alongside a levee near the San Joaquin River in Manteca, CA

It’s a funny term and an unusual thing to see. A boil, aka a sand boil.

These unusual occurrences happen along and on levees during times of high water, but also when seepage occurs.

If left untreated, well, it’s not going to be a good thing. That’s why CCC Delta Corpsmembers are helping protect levees—and nearby homes, businesses, and farmland—from them, one sand bag ring at a time.
