CCC Director Bruce Saito congratulates San Diego Corpsmember Brianna Free on her Corpsmember of the Year honors and poses with her Senate Resolution honoring her service in the CCC.

On the steps of the State Capitol, the California Conservation Corps announced the recipient of its 2021 Corpsmember of the Year honors.

Each CCC center submitted a nominee to be considered for the prestigious honor. This year’s winner is San Diego Corpsmember Brianna Free.

Brianna worked on one of the center’s two fire crews in 2021 and showed leadership and commitment to the CCC.

However, that is not the only honor Brianna received this week. On Tuesday, she was also named one of the four national Corpsmembers of the Year by The Corps Network.

“The Corpsmembers of the Year are role models. These are young people who have earnestly invested their energy in civic engagement. Their personal stories and accomplishments are an inspiration to other young adults and veterans serving in national service programs across the country,” said Mary Ellen Sprenkel, President and CEO of The Corps Network. “Today’s Corpsmembers represent the skill and potential of a new generation of conservation and community leaders. As our country looks to establish a Civilian Climate Corps initiative, we must turn to bright, hardworking people like Brianna Free for guidance. Thousands of Corpsmembers help strengthen communities across the country every year, but this award celebrates those who have gone above and beyond. The Corps Network is humbled to engage with such inspiring people as Brianna Free and programs like California Conservation Corps.”
