Fighting the Caldor Fire ‘Personal’ and Unique for Tahoe Fire Crews

CCC Tahoe Corpsmembers don life vests while riding on a boat across Echo Lake to reach the Caldor Fire in El Dorado County.

It’s what they signed up for, but this firefight was personal. Intense flames and torching trees.

A rush to scratch out fire breaks around cabins and homes. All while being evacuated themselves.

The Corpsmembers of the CCC Tahoe fire crews battled flames and emotions when they worked on the Caldor Fire.

The experience also required the use of boats to reach the fire line across Echo Lake.

Winter weather may now be evident, but the crews remain ready to respond and grateful for the opportunity to serve the South Lake Tahoe community.
