CCC Crews dispatched to Delta Island

CCC Crews

Corpsmembers arrive at Twitchell Island levee in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta to protect a flood threatened levee.

The California Conservation Corps today sent four crews — 50 corpsmembers — to lay protective plastic on a Twitchell Island levee in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta.

With a high tide expected, the CCC will place the plastic secured by sandbags on a segment of the levee to protect it from wave-wash action.

The CCC crews are from Stockton and Napa. They expect to work at least until dark on the levee at the request of Reclamation District 1601.

The Corps has worked on Twitchell Island before and has used it for a floodfighting training site.

Crews throughout the state are flood-trained and ready to respond where needed.
