Butte Fire Crews Protect Homes at SCU Lighting Complex Fire

Working 24 shifts in triple digit heat, hustling to help protect nearby homes—it’s just another day on a CCC wildland firefighting hand crew.

CCC Butte Fire Center crews 3 and 4 recently finished up two weeks working on the SCU Lightning Complex burning near Pleasanton. The fire scorched more than 375,000 acres across seven East Bay and Central Valley counties.

The Corpsmembers’ workdays were filled with sweat, heat, and the desire to make a difference. The end result, several ranch homes were saved from enroaching flames.
