“Planting native species, we don’t have that opportunity very often, so it’s a privilege to be out here.”

Logistics. Science. And exercising those green thumbs. It’s how CCC San Diego Corpsmembers spent several weeks this spring in the desert wilderness of Imperial County.
The crew first cleared out invasive species, before tackling their biggest, and rarest, project to date—run water hoses and plant native species across 30-plus acres near Brawley.

It was as much hardwork as it was inspiring. Digging. Planting. And coordinating where each planted belonged.
The best part of the project, the positive impact it will have on native wildlife and environment.
