“When we do this hard work, we actually get to see what happens… the change in these areas.”

Cameron Barrett
CCC Fortuna

It may not be a place a lot of people visit, and that’s why it’s important to keep its ecosystem thriving and native. The Headwaters Forest Reserve in Humboldt County is a beautiful place with cultural ties to the local Wiyot Tribe and environmental significance for salmon in the Elk River. CCC Fortuna Corpsmembers navigate mud, thorns, and difficult roots to remove invasive Himalayan Blackberry and Cotoneaster – and improve the land managed and protected by Save the Redwoods League. The significance of that impact is not lost on the crew, who finds passion in making a difference in their environment and the Humboldt community.
