“I am learning to become more independent and how to take control in situations, like how to do projects on my own now.”
Cuauhtemoc Hurtado

To toil in the soil, is to be a Corpsmember in the California Conservation Corps. The work of adding new plant life, getting one’s hands covered in clay, takes on new meaning when working as an intern.
The days of large crews making quick work of projects turn into independent decisions, greater responsibility, and an opportunity to grow. For CCC Los Angeles Corpsmember Cuauhtemoc Hurtado, his internship at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Garden is showing him potential career paths and enhancing his landscaping skills.
The internship is mutually beneficial, as the Arboretum gets extra work done and Corpsmembers get the hands-on experience of keeping a botanical garden looking fresh and clean.
