“Everyday it’s something new. It’s so dynamic and really, really fun and interesting.”

CCC Watershed Stewards Program

In San Luis Obispo, and throughout the Morro Bay Watershed, Corpsmembers are using science-driven techniques to protect steelhead trout – a threatened fish species that plays a big role in keeping the ecosystem balanced.

Working in partnership through the SLO Steelhead Initiative, Corpsmembers in the CCC Watershed Stewards Program are monitoring steelhead populations, restoring stream habitat, and collecting data to guide future conservation projects.

Through this ten-month season, full of hands-on learning, CCC’s young adults are not only helping steelhead populations recover but also figuring out their career paths and learning what it takes to safeguard California’s waterways for years to come.
