Five Months in the Backcountry Will Last a Lifetime

CCC Director Bruce Saito talking to the Corpsmembers of the Backcountry Trails Program at Camp Mather

CCC Director Bruce Saito talks to the Corpsmembers of the Backcountry Trails Program at Camp Mather near Yosemite after they successfully completed their five months living and working off-the-grid.

After five months living and working off-the-grid in California’s most scenic, and rural, places the Backcountry Trails Program crews returned home.

Their successes from places like Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Inyo, Shasta-Trinity, Klamath, and Stanislaus include:

  • 9,548 feet of newly constructed trail
  • 174 miles of trail maintenance;
  • 232 new steps
  • 1,656 square feet of multi-tier built

The bigger success is the Corpsmembers’ personal achievements and development.

Whether it was improving themselves, stepping out of their comfort zones, building a community, or re-affirming who they are as people; every Backcountry Corpsmember walks away with something, that and an exclusive hat.
