“It’s just amazing to feel like I’m part of something that’s actually helping the environment.”

Brooke Montano

Sure, it looks pretty when in full bloom, but it doesn’t belong in the Arden Bar Pond along the American River near Sacramento. Primrose. It’s invasive and causing all sorts of problems for fish, waterbirds, even land mammals. Anglers casting their lines along the pond have been missing their targets and ending up stuck in the plant, invertedly leading to ducks, bats, deer, and waterbirds getting hooked, harmed, and even killed. Working with the Waterbird Habitat Project, #CCCSacramento Corpsmembers are getting their feet and hands wet by pulling the primrose out by the roots. The result — a safer place to fish, for fish, and for the birds.
