“…I have the opportunity to actually do something, it’s really important to me that I take it.”

While the Park Fire rages on in the Northstate, it’s a harsh reminder of why our Corpsmembers commit as much time as they do to complete fuel reduction projects.

In the months prior to the fire, our CCC Chico Forestry Corps crew partnered with the Butte County Fire Safe Council to clear potential fire fuel from around parts of Paradise Lake in and around Paradise and Magalia.

The goal of the work was to allow for a prescribed burn to take place during the cooler months to rid the forest floor of dead and downed vegetation, which would help reduce the threat of a megafire.

In fact, prescribed fire and fuel reduction made a significant impact around communities hit hard by the Park Fire, like in Cohasset.

Corpsmembers hope to continue their work of protecting their neighbors and communities once the current fire threat subsides.
