“The reason we’re doing this is because we don’t want the Monkey Vine to overthrow a tree. We don’t want all these other plants taken out by the vines.”

When working in the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanical Garden, there’s no time for monkeying around.

Although the work does involve removing an invasive pest known as, monkey vine. This Australian native is invasive in Southern California.

CCC Los Angeles Corpsmembers have been called in to lend some helping hands remove the troublesome vines and keep the Arboretum safe and enjoyable for visitors.

Its not just using hedgers, loppers, chain saws, and McLeods. The project required hands-on search and sorting of seed pods, to help keep the woody vine from proliferating.
