“It wasn’t like the traditional heavy saw work that you would see, cutting big, tall heavy brush. A lot of it was done low. You had to squat and really move that saw across the ground to really clean that line.”

Fire season is now year-round in California, which means our fire crews stay ready every shift.
Ahead of peak fire season, CCC fire crews complete readiness drills to demonstrate they’re up to the challenge and to be certified as Type 1 hand crews.
As part of the real-world test, CCC LosPiños crews dug in their hand tools, duck-walked with their saws, and demonstrated they’re ready for wildfires, whether up in the mountains of Riverside County or in the creek beds closer to homes and towns.
It’s all part of how California Conservation Corps Corpsmembers stay fire ready.
