Using Fire

Redding Corpsmembers on the Shasta 1 fire crew use McLeods to help keep a burn pile contained and smoldering during a fuel reduction project.

Preparing for wildfire is year-round effort. When the CCC Redding Shasta 1 fire crew isn’t responding to wildfires, they’re working to prevent them.

They do this by completing fuel reduction projects, which can include burn piles, chipping, and other techniques.

This work not only protects communities from extreme fire behavior during peak fire season, but makes our forests more resilient. It’s another way our CCC fire crews are keeping California ready for wildfire.

Removing Ladder Fuels

Corpsmembers remove ladder fuels, that is fuels closer to the ground that if ignited would push into the canopty of a tree, to help keep communities safer from wildfire.
