Creating Space
Creating defensible space meeting the new Zone 0 standard, Corpsmembers used shovels and loppers to remove any piece of vegetation growing within five feet of state buildings.
Long before a wildfire ignites, we all can be prepared for the worst.
Our CCC Sacramento Corpsmembers saw first-hand the devastating impacts of wildfires during recovery missions to the Palisades Fire.
A few weeks after, they were working to prevent similar devastation by clearing Zones 0, 1, and 2 at California State Parks properties in Santa Cruz Counties.
The aftermath they witnessed really hit home the importance of defensible space and how five-, 30-, and 100-foot buffer zones can make a home or business significantly more fire resilient.
Making a Difference
“Our job here is to make sure that all the dead vegetation around these building — and the surrounding area to not have any dense vegetation — so it prevents any kind of fire spread.”
