CCC Announces 2024 Corpsmember of the Year
On Earth Day, the California Conservation Corps announced that Kameron Jackson from the CCC Los Angeles Center is the CCC’s 2024 Corpsmember of the Year. Kameron joined us in late 2022 and has not only developed the technical skills associated with a wide variety of project work he’s grown into a leader among his peers.
“Kameron’s elevating of both himself and others makes him an invaluable member of the CCC,” said Pomona District Director Nikki Morales. “His leadership, dedication, and selfless service to his peers and the broader community make him a standout candidate for Corpsmember of the Year.”
“Shocked,” is how Kameron describes his reaction when he learned that he was nominated by his center as he feels his center has many outstanding Corpsmembers. Kameron says the diversity of project work is what’s motivated him to stay and grow in the CCC.
“Before the CCC, I never saw myself in a leadership position,” Kameron said. “I think I’ve changed a lot. I believe I’m more responsible and diligent. Being a crew leader, it does change you. It holds you to a higher standard, not just bettering myself, but being a role model for my fellow Corpsmembers.”
Kameron’s journey with the CCC is not over yet. He’s about to embark on five-plus months in the backcountry of Kings Canyon National Park with the CCC’s Backcountry Trails Program. His supervisors at the Los Angeles Center say his leadership, hard work, and dedication show his deserving of this statewide honor.
“His enthusiasm for service is contagious, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment where all Corpsmembers can thrive,” said Los Angeles Conservationist 1, Jabari Williams. “His dependability has not only earned him the trust of his peers but has also made him a respected figure within the community.”
When Kameron’s time in the CCC ends later this year, he hopes to continue his service and inspiring work. He’s looking forward to career opportunities in the outdoors, perhaps with California State Parks or the U.S. Forest Service.
