You may wonder who keeps trails safe and clear, especially given the abundance of overgrown vegetation courtesy of this year’s winter rains. It’s safe to say the backbone of keeping iconic trails open—like the Backbone Trail through the Santa Monica Mountains—are the young adults of the CCC Pomona Center. For months, they’ve hiked in their gear and traversed some of SoCal’s most known trail systems. It’s hard, dirty work, but the reward is knowing hikers, bikers, and equestrians are enjoying safer and more navigable paths.
