Corpsmember Story: Ilana Greenwald

Corpsmember Ilana Greenwald, right, uses her McLeod to cut a fire line during a training exercise in Toland Park in Santa Paula, CA.

Don’t be fooled by her size. At 4’11”, Ilana Greenwald carries her weight – and then some – on the fire line.

Being on a CCC Camarillo Center fire crew is by far the hardest thing she’s done in her life, but she wouldn’t change a second of her experience.

Ilana’s first fire, last November’s deadly Woolsey Fire, tested her physically and mentally. It burned in her hometown, devastating the summer camp where she played as a child, and threatening her parents’ home.

Yet, Ilana pushed through to help her neighbors and prove to herself that there’s nothing she can’t do.
