Corpsmember Story: Cate Ashford

Female Corpsmember in protective equipment holds chain saw preparing to fell dead tree

Los Padres Center Corpsmember Cate Ashford prepares to bore test a tree impacted by drought and bark beetle infestation in Kings Canyon National Park.

Cate Ashford may be taking a break from college, but she’s by no means taking it easy.

She’s working hard at the CCC Los Padres Center to help improve the health of Sierra Nevada forests.

Cate wanted to experience hands-on field work and to explore potential careers in conservation—and that’s exactly what she’s found.

She never thought she’d be felling trees in a national park, but is enjoying the opportunity to further her education, meet professionals, and earn scholarship money.
