THE CCC HELPS BUILD BIG SUR EMERGENCY TRAIL

Video link below.

Corpsmembers from centers in the Monterey Bay area and San Luis Obispo helped get an emergency trail in Big Sur ready ahead of schedule. The CCC assisted California State Parks in building the trail for local residents, allowing them to go from one side of Pfeiffer Canyon to the other after the collapse of the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge on Highway 1.

Crews worked in rain, cold, wind and mud for nearly two weeks straight, lugging 200-pound beams uphill for the half-mile trail.

The trail is now open from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset, limited to local residents, children and workers in the area.

Take a look at the video of our crews at work.
